Meet Ignacia

This is Ignacia. She's from Mexico.
I met her last Thursday doing my usual soup kitchen routine.
She is honestly the sweetest woman I have ever met in my life. Kinda quiet, but always wears a smile. She started telling me about how she used to go there to get food, but now she volunteers. She said she loves serving the food, it makes her feel good. "Me gusta servir la comida, me hace sentir bien."

Ignacia has a sad story. She came to Brooklyn from Mexico to make some money to send back to her family. She lived a good life, she owned a small restaurant in her home town, and lived well. Unfortunately after leaving her business behind, her family stole her money, and her restaurant closed down. She's been living in Brooklyn for the last 15 years.

I can't believe a woman with a story like that, always has a smile on her face.

Props to Ignacia!

Meet Miguel

This is Miguel. I met him last Thursday at the Soup Kitchen in Bed-Stuy.

Miguel is originally from Peru. He has a wife and 3 children who live in Peru. Unfortunately Miguel lost his job, and lost all the money he had. Now he is stuck in Brooklyn trying to find a way to make some money.

After talking to him for an hour I realized how cool this guy was. If anyone has worked there ass off, it's this guy. He built the houses his wife and children live in. He supports them all. In NY he is a jack of all trades. He works in construction, collects and recycles glass, Works as a handy man, and even sometimes does delivery for a local pizzeria. Sometimes if its a slow week he has no choice but to stop by the soup kitchen to pick up some free grub. He admits he doesn't love eating there, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
Miguel said; " La comida no esta mal... Y son buena gente."
Which means the foods not to bad and the staff is nice.

When you see how some people live life, you begin to really appreciate your own.

Good Luck Miguel!

Soup Kitchen

Every Thursday I will be serving food to the hungry.
It's a way for me to give back to the community of Bed-Stuy, I've been living here for 5 years, and I've seen my fare share of homeless people on the streets. I always think to myself and imagine how hard it must be to stay alive on the streets. I couldn't imagine not having food.
I am very lucky. It really feels good to help people in need.

In this Blog I will Document my experiences working for the hungry.

Hope this gets people to do the same.

Thanks,

Alex Kleinberg
