Meet Ignacia

This is Ignacia. She's from Mexico.
I met her last Thursday doing my usual soup kitchen routine.
She is honestly the sweetest woman I have ever met in my life. Kinda quiet, but always wears a smile. She started telling me about how she used to go there to get food, but now she volunteers. She said she loves serving the food, it makes her feel good. "Me gusta servir la comida, me hace sentir bien."

Ignacia has a sad story. She came to Brooklyn from Mexico to make some money to send back to her family. She lived a good life, she owned a small restaurant in her home town, and lived well. Unfortunately after leaving her business behind, her family stole her money, and her restaurant closed down. She's been living in Brooklyn for the last 15 years.

I can't believe a woman with a story like that, always has a smile on her face.
